Nomads of manouche jazz
Common Routes is an international project orchestra, bringing together musicians from different musical worlds at the meeting point of manouche jazz, the music of the gypsies of France. From there, they create a unique repertoire in which individual musical cultures and soundscapes are united in a common musical language. The joint creative process reflects how different cultures live together, respecting their roots and traditions, enriching and strengthening each other.
The project, a collaboration between 6 countries – France, Spain, Poland, Belgium, Italy, Hungary – aims to promote the integration of immigrant artists and support their professional development in Europe. At each of its stops, a musician of local origin and an immigrant musician living in the host country join the three-member “core” from France, and the five musicians work together to create a new musical production each time, in just a few days. Through their work, the musicians of the project raise awareness of the potential and importance of renewed social cohesion.
