Wild Contemporary World Music
One of the main World Music bands from Chile, with more than 30 years of a career and 21 released albums. The music of Subhira Quintet blends native American music from South-America with experimental and progressive sound, using elements from folk, jazz and contemporary academic music. They have played in some of the main festivals and venues from their homeland Chile, North America and Europe.
Their director and composer, Subhira (Rodrigo Cepeda), is a “President of the Republic – National Prize of Music” winner, one of the highest recognitions given by the Chilean Ministry of Culture. He is also professor of composition at the Modern School of Music and director of world music label Mundovivo.
This particular formation presented at Babel Sound – which also involves former CREMM participant Petra Onderuf from Slovakia on violin – has been brought together for the band’s current European tour.
